What Color Would You Call It?

I have never been able to put a name to Quinn's eye color.  On forms where I have to commit to something I go with the garbage-pail term "Hazel" for lack of anything better.

Aden's eyes are BLUE.  Incredibly, intensely, unmistakably blue.

Mona's eyes are just like mine: Greenish, with a blue-grey rim around the outside and a brown ring right around the pupil.  (So we also get lumped into "Hazel.")

Quinn?  I can't tell.  I have been staring into those beautiful eyes on that adorable face for his entire life and I just don't know.  Somewhere between green and brown and grey without being any of those things.  Recently his aunt gave him a shirt that is the exact same color, so I asked him to pose in it with his eyes really wide.  I may take the shirt to the paint department next time we're at Home Depot and see what the color sample cards there say.

So I am tossing it to the masses!  What do you think?

    1. A friend of mine said that, too. But I guess I think of olive as having more yellow in it. This seems closer to sage to me, maybe.

    1. Yeah, you know here on the computer it's looking mostly green. Which is funny because when Quinn and I collected paint sample cards at Home Depot we kept reaching for greenish ones and they were wrong. We had to keep going more brown. Hm. (Silly imperfect high tech color reproduction!)

  4. I find that, with my kids who have a changeable/multi eye color, certain color shirts make (or seem to make) one of the colors in their eyes more prominent.

    1. That happens with me, too. I remember wearing one shirt in particular in college and having everyone say, "I didn't realize your eyes were blue!"

  5. Sagey green. Pretty similar to mine, actually. Mine have a more emerald tint, but they still get called hazel.

  6. I have hazel (green/brown) eyes, and my daughter sort of inherited them --hers sometimes seem to have a hint of blue as well, which I never associated with the term hazel.

Quinn's eyes do look like a darker green --sage sounds like a good color --in that shirt. I used to own a pair of glasses with green rims because that brought out the green in my eyes (and who doesn't want that? :-) )

  7. Oh my goodness! Look at that cute cute cute face!

I'm going with sage. I'm sure they change with his shirts, though. I know Brien's do, and mine are this blue/green thing that are mostly green, but every once in a while will be blue.

Thank goodness the girls are simple. BLUE. ;o)

  8. Definitely green, and a gorgeous shade, at that. The green in my own eyes is more emerald, but is sadly overshadowed by the ring of brown that lurks around my irises. They started off brown and started sporting green around the outside when I hit puberty. For many years I used to wish and wish that the green would chase the brown away. Alas, they have remained that all-encompassing classification of Hazel. And my kids? All brown-eyed, like the husband. I'm holding out hope that one will turn out to at least be hazel-eyed like me someday.

    1. I think I need to run another picture that's less green somehow, because Quinn is sitting here with me and agrees his shirt is more brown than green. But he's enjoying everyone's comments!

Brown eyes are so pretty! But are there any really bad eye colors? All of them are interesting. I remember being baffled by a line in the book Beezus and Ramona, where Beezus is jealous of the compliments her sister gets about having beautiful eyes, and she reminds herself that grown ups have assured her that "Blue eyes are just as pretty as brown." And I wondered who ever didn't think blue eyes were pretty?

  9. In that picture, definitely green. A gorgeous sage grey/green.

  10. I would say green, but he has a green shirt on and I wonder if that doesn't throw things a bit??

  11. In French it's ''yeux pers'' (pronounced ''pear'') there is no direct translation but it means blue-green eyes that changes color depending on what you are wearing.
