Welcome!

To my shiny new blog!

I'm proud of the writing I did for the past three years at Babble, and there is a link available to Holding Down the Fort above my blog roll in case anyone wants to check it out.  Leaving Babble was not my choice (and if anyone wants details they can email me directly since I don't feel like devoting any time to that here), but I'm excited about this new space.  It's mine in a way that my other blog never was, to change and do with as I will.  I feel like I have a new toy!

It will take a little time to learn how this toy works however, but soon I will have pictures up of our recent trip to the cottage, progress on my latest violins, and a look at what my kids are up to.

Thanks for reading.  It's nice to have you here.

  4. "apart from rest of the babble" is right! it must be nice to manage a blog of your own now.

    1. Oh, SarahB, as Google is my witness may I never have to put together another blog slide show again.

  6. Followed you over from babble.

I always found your posts there quiet, serene, my own little space away from the noise of the internet.

Isn't there room in the world for that anymore?

    1. Aw! You are so sweet. I tried to make them fun so nice to hear you like them. But the slide shows were just Babble's way of jacking up their numbers since each picture counted as a new page view. I'm done caring about page views, so now the pictures and captions will all be part of the post itself. Lots of cute photos of our cottage trip in the post going up in the next day or so.

  8. Hooray! Welcome! :)
Personally, I enjoy the freedom of not having to be a slave to stats and traffic. My little blog has been chugging along since 2009 and although I am small, I do it for me, and some amazing opportunities have come about because of that and because I do what I love. Love is all you need! :)

I agree with what the Empress said! Sorry to see you leave Babble. I've enjoyed your writing there too. I am sad to see that some of the best writing around is being replaced with junk. And slideshows and round-ups.
But moving along--welcome and Hip-hip-hooray for you! :)

    1. p.s. just to clarify--I didn't mean to imply that I didn't like your slideshows (or slideshows in general) I just meant to say that I also really enjoy reading what people write. I had just noticed lately that much of the writing from writers I really enjoy on certain major websites was being replaced with visuals, like slideshows. Anyway--just wanted to clarify!) :) xo! And wishing you all the best!

      :)

    2. Oh, I know. Frankly, the blogs I follow (such as Baby Squared and Because I'm the Mom) are just as entertaining with their slide shows as they are with everything else, it's just not fun being made to feel you had to fit into that format so often. Form and content should be decisions left to people creating original work, not dictated by the bookkeepers.

  9. Yay! I was hoping you would start your own space. Adding you to my google reader now. Sorry the departure from Babble sounds unpleasant, but I'll be happy to read about your adventures without clicking through slideshows :)

  11. I love the alliteration not being homonymic (or how would the KQC be expressed?)

You are smart and clever and a great mom. So glad to keep reading you. :)

    1. I got all star-struck when you commented on my blog! I couldn't believe someone I read was commenting on my 0-readership blog.

Just wanted to let you know you are a celebrity (blog) author already. :)

  13. Yay! So glod you're not going away completely...I have no idea what I'd do. Your posts always brighten my day and make me think. My knowledge of bizarre fruit would definitely have gone down considerably :)

Congrats on the new space. It looks awesome!

  14. You and Divorced with Kids were the reasons I stuck with Babble for as long as I did. Now that you've both gone off to roost in other corners of the blogosphere, I'll never have to darken their door again. Good riddance to them and good luck to you in your beautiful new home!

    1. Divorced with Kids was awesome, wasn't it? I still send links to some of those posts to people going through rough separations because they were so well done. Glad we can still read her work at Irretrievably Broken.

Thank you for the lovely compliment, and I hope you keep reading!

  17. Glad you'll still be blogging. Your writing is beautiful (this from a very critical English-major type), and I love hearing about your life. So different from ours in many ways, yet sometimes so similar.

  18. I'm thrilled you're continuing to write. Your posts at Babble might not have had as many comments as other bloggers attracted, but your writing was unparalleled. I love your approach to parenting (and life in general). Congrats on the new space!

  19. I am so glad I found you here. This weekend I thought about the way you write about parenting and thought, "I really need to check back in with Babble so I can read her blog!" Then, this morning I saw your comment on Mom-101 and ended up here, without even having to go to Babble to find you. Happy writing, the very very best to your family.
