Among many stories she fondly remembers a trip on the Italian coast when we were little where they had a few flat tires, always near a gas station with a swing set she could push us in. When I think back to the days of Ian's first deployment when the girls were 4 and 2 and I was uncomfortably pregnant and on my own, I had to talk myself off my mental ledge sometimes minute by minute. There were whole weeks at a stretch that felt like being stranded. You can choose to be grumpy and irritated, or you can choose to enjoy your time (if you're in a situation such as you experienced--we had a four hour wait in a Firestone tire shop with a five year old and one year old and that was sheer unadulterated hell and there was nothing I could do to make it even remotely fun or adventurous...).
