And I can't believe this grumpy lady would be allowed to work at a family event like this! Your experience reminds me of one I had in elementary school, when we were asked what we wanted to do, when we grew up. My response (and true wish at the time) "I'd like to be an acrobat at a circus" was not received very well by my elementary school teacher (of 4 years!). She blew me off with a curt "That's not a profession!" and went on to the next kid!. What do some adults think? I'm so glad your kids' creativity was honored in the end and I admire you for being able to find the right words at the right time (with me, I'm usually so astounded by people's behavior, the words usually come to me AFTER the fact.) Also, the grumpy lady must have overlooked the eagle - I mean, could there be a better symbol for freedom than a bird? That actually makes my blood boil and I did a little cheer when I read your most excellent retort. <br /><br />"Her theme should always be 'Mona' and she will be mentioned honorably her whole life long." You are such an awesome mother. It's a volunteer position, so it's not like anyone is forcing them to be there. But they always look put upon and annoyed. <br /><br />There were a couple of young people helping this time, and they were great. I at first asked if Quinn's scooter should be in the trike category since they really didn't have a place for scooters, and as the grumpy lady at trike sign up started muttering about having to check the rules these two teenaged boys farther down the table with coaster sign up said, "It's a coaster! We can help!" We need more people like that.Korinthiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15580286551375780490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8654887465201994138.post-51287039670016562202012-07-09T09:37:15.598-05:002012-07-09T09:37:15.598-05:00Good for you for letting them create on their own....Good for you for letting them create on their own. My kids have had similar demoralizing experiences with science fair projects. I hated doing them when I was in school and I'm not going to do them now! I love the eagle. And what's with grumpy old ladies like that?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
